Firearm and bullets found at Salford Skip Hire Ltd
A BB gun, initially believed to be a handgun, and ammunition were found in a sorting container by a worker at Salford Skip Hire on Wednesday.
The discovery was made at Salford Skip Hire Ltd on Cobden Street - near to where an arms stash was found on Duchy Road last week.
Police would not confirm whether the two discoveries are being linked.
A spokesman for the force said it was unclear where the gun and ammunition had been dumped before it turned up at Salford Skip Hire Ltd.
Mark Rogers, Materials Recycling Facility manager at Salford Skip Hire Ltd, said the gun and bullets were found by a member of staff on the waste picking line.
"The police sent an armed response unit," said Mr Rogers.
"They made the gun safe and then the CSI team came out to do tests on the gun and bullets.
"They have taken DNA from the staff that touched them.
"It was all taken away for further investigation. It's not the first time we've found something like this.
"We process 2000 tonnes of material on a weekly basis. We've found all sorts, including a hand grenade before."
